Is It Our Responsibility to Prove that God Exists?

“Is it our responsibility to prove that God exists?” Now that is a good question! There are a number of possible meanings in that question and thus a number of possible answers. In relation to the discussion on worldviews, I believe the only answer can be, “Yes”.

School Chaplaincy and the Language of Religion

Religion serves an important role in society generally, not the least of which being that it contributes positively to the health and wellbeing of its citizens. This contention it is supported overwhelmingly by research. While isolated cases of SRE volunteer teachers and chaplains controvening their guidelines should be dealt with appropriately, the case for scrapping SRE and chaplaincy based on the values of secularism is just not convincing. Nevertheless, representatives of SRE should be more careful in the public use of their ‘Christianese’.

New Atheistic Ritual Uses Blow-Dryers for “De-Baptisms”

Religiosity is a fancy sociological term that refers to religious activity, dedication, and belief. In other words, the variety of ways that a person expresses her religious faith.

It has long been my contention that religiosity is natural to humans. It seems too evident to me that people freely and naturally adopt religious behaviours and rituals.

“You are holy.” “No I’m not … well, maybe.”

God of Wonders

I was praying this morning, “‘God of wonders beyond our galaxy, You are holy …’, but I am not”. Then I stopped myself. This is not exactly true, is it? I am holy, though I may not live like it. What conditions brought this thought to mind? During my personal devotions this morning, I read [...]

Cracks in the Crystal Cathedral

The Crystal Cathedral

I have long been impressed, yet hesitant, about Robert Schuller and his crystal cathedral. Having read a book of his on meditation, while I was in high school, I was intrigued to later discover that Schuller was influenced heavily by the missiology of William Booth and his Salvation Army.

It has come to my attention recently that the Crystal Cathedral has filed for bankruptcy.

A Cultural ‘No-No’ for Christians

Vuvuzelas

It seems as though the reactionary wing of the Christian church in Australia is up in arms again, fighting for rights that it may or may not have, while ignoring its defence of privileges it needs to constantly earn.

“Whatever You Do …” Is This True?

I once had the opportunity to enter a conversation on the question of whether boxing was an acceptable sport for Christians or Muslims. I have to admit that I have struggled with this question since. While Christianity and Islam both fall within the category of Abrahamic religions, there is a very distinct difference in the way these religions deal with this question.

Never Give Cheap Imitations

My wife’s family still like to give Santa gifts, even amongst the adults. What started many years ago, as a simple humourous gift of socks or chocolates, has since mushroomed into gifts on a par, budget-wise, with our main gifts. Add to this that some members of the family live overseas. So, with the additional cost of postage, you can probably imagine the overwhelming strain this has placed on everyone’s finances.
